Steve Watt is the Chief Architect for Emerging Technologies within Red Hat’s Office of Technology. The Emerging Technologies group is responsible for the early identification and incubation of emerging and disruptive technologies. Presently, Steve’s teams are working on Red Hat’s Platform and Storage community and product engineering initiatives related to Container Storage and the Kubernetes Project. Prior to their focus on containers, Steve’s teams led Red Hat’s Big Data product and partner engineering efforts around the Hadoop project. Prior to Red Hat, Steve was the founder of the HP Hadoop Business and Hadoop Chief Technologist at HP, where his teams established the worlds fastest Hadoop performance benchmarks and grew the Hadoop business to be HP’s most profitable integrated solution within the Server Business Unit. Prior to HP, Steve was a Software Architect and Master Inventor at IBM Emerging Technologies where he created IBM’s first Hadoop distribution and was part of the core team that built IBM’s first Big Data Analytics product, BigSheets. Prior to IBM, Steve worked for a number of consumer facing software startups in the USA and his native South Africa.
